Healthy hot chocolate

Ok, so this one isn’t strictly food but it is the perfect afternoon or evening warmer. It is nourishing and sweet enough to make you feel like it is a naughty treat but with a fraction of the calories and a lot less sugar. Raw cacao powder is jam packed with antioxidants, almond milk is naturally low in calories and contains vitamins D and E so is fab for your skin. A spoonful of honey adds the sweetness and a tiny bit of coconut oil makes it extra creamy. If you want to make it a little thicker, try adding a spoonful of a smooth nut butter.

Ingredients (for 1):

  • 3 tablespoons of raw cacao powder
  • A mugful of almond milk
  • A tablespoon of honey
  • A teaspoon of coconut oil
  • A tablespoon of nut butter (optional)
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon

Method:

  1. Pop the coconut oil and honey into a saucepan and melt over a low heat
  2. Gradually add the cacao powder, mixing it in as you go
  3. Add the nut butter if you are using and then gradually add a little milk at a time – mixing it in well before you add more.
  4. Warm it up slowly until it is the perfect drinking temperature (avoid boiling it)
  5. Sprinkle cinnamon on top and serve!
